Pol Bury

Artist (1922 - 2005)

The painter, draughtsman and sculptor Pol Bury is famous for his many reliefs and his moveable fountains. Close to the Surrealists, first of all, the artist took part in the CoBrA movement from 1948 to 1951, before jointly founding the Art Abstrait movement in 1952. He then gradually abandoned painting and produced his first plans mobiles (moveable planes). Regarded as one of the fathers of kineticism, and author of the manifesto Le Spatialisme (1953), Pol Bury is the creator of a very large number of “works in motion”, seen as objects of precision and meditation in action, endowed with an “energy”, which poetically celebrates technical and mathematical genius.
