Barbara Huckova
  • Artist (1964)

After graduating from the School of Photography in Prague, Barbara Huckova (born in 1964 in Prague) has developed a praxis somewhere between book illustration (reports from Prague’s walls, press compilation in 1990) and the study of reporting agencies in France, for which, in 1989, she would receive the prize of the Union du Fonds Littéraire Tchèque.  To these experiences, associated with other observations of cities such as Paris, Lisbon and Rome, was added that of a stay at Briare-Le-Canal in the Loiret in 1991.  In the tradition of the Czechoslovak photographer Joseph Sudek (1896-1976), Barbara Huckova set off in search of ordinary objects and street scenes, which she photographed in black and white without any search for effect.  The photographs acquired by the FRAC Centre frame the city close up and far away, without any anecdote or powerful light contrast which might dramatize the scenes observed.
